Portal Update News

Make the West Point Portal www.westpointvirginia.org your Internet source of community information. Take a look at this weeks front page article about the fascinating 19th and early 20th century history of our town. This article developed because of the portal.

If you have good photos of the area, we need them to enhance the portal. Please put them in the photo album or send them to me to add. (As you can see we have many spaces for photos that now have nothing to do with the town.)

Make your opinions known by adding a forum or visiting one. Go to the education tab and see the latest information on the four web sites maintained by our exceptional school system. Click on the government tab to see the latest information on the web sites maintained by the governments of our town, counties, state, and federal. Note that King William has a brand new web site.

TechRiders recently trained ten members of our community to be trainers to teach those citizens who need to learn how to use a computer, create documents, and use the Internet. The project is manned by volunteers and classes will be free of charge. Our thanks to the teachers who will be scheduling classes soon. They are: Margaret Montgomery, Arthur Anderson, Andy Conklin, Dr. Leo Wagner, Deborah Hinkle, Barbara Jackson, Jackson Barrow, Frances Thornton, Mike Pullen and Olen Sikes.

Go to the organizations tab and look up your organizations, also religion and find your church. I would be pleased to work with you on the appearance of your web site, including adding photos, and showing you how to use it to send information to your members. Please look at the West Point Christian Church web site as an example of what can be done. This site includes a copy of the pastors sermon each Sunday.

Please go to the portal and sign in on the front page, and encourage others to use the green "join".

I need your support in continuing this important Town Council project to make everyone an informed citizen.
