The birthday of Chesty Puller, a real American hero and a West Point, Virginia native, may become an annual celebration. Mayor Andy Conklin and Councilman Olen Sikes plan to propose the adoption of June 26 as a day of special events and recognition of Puller, one of West Points most famous natives.
Two years ago, a celebration ceremony was conducted by the 1st Marine Division Association, Old Dominion Chapter from Chantilly, Virginia at Pullers birthplace on First Street. The speaker was Brigadier General Andrew Davis. The unit was represented also by Bill Uehling, president of the chapter, and Floyd Newkirk, who took the photos in the General Puller Birthday Celebration photo album. Pullers birthplace is now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Brown.
